Wellbeing Centre Mural Design Competition

The Community Warden team, in conjunction with LU Arts and Student Services, is hosting an art competition, inviting all students to design a window mural display for the front of the Wellbeing Centre to promote their work and celebrate the partnership between the centre and the University community. The winning design will be displayed on the windows of the Wellbeing Centre and the winning artist will receive £450.

Loughborough Wellbeing Centre provides a safe and supportive environment and runs a range of activities to support people's mental health in Charnwood and beyond. Loughborough University is committed to improving and protecting the wellbeing of the community and is partnering with the Wellbeing Centre to help showcase their work.

Design Brief

We are looking for imaginative and powerful designs that:

  • Raise awareness and show an understanding of wellbeing, mental health and reducing social isolation.
  • Encourage the University and local community to act to help reduce stigma around mental health.
  • Clearly communicate what Loughborough Wellbeing Centre does as part of their output work for the community. The centre focuses on reducing isolation by offering a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Address one of four key areas in your design: sport, mindfulness, art therapy or togetherness.

Who can enter?

  • Open to all current UG, PGT and PGR students at Loughborough University. We are committed to inclusivity and representation of the diverse local and student community and welcome applications from students of all backgrounds.

How do I enter?

Please submit your preliminary design via the online form. At this stage, your entry should be an outline of your intended design rather than a fully polished artwork. The winner will then be asked to work their design up before it is turned into a vinyl for the window.  This may require taking on board feedback from the judging panel, especially around the messages the artwork communicates. Please upload your design as part of the application and make sure the filename includes your name.

The following artwork formats can be accepted:

  • Pixel-based e.g. Photoshop/image-based artwork
  • Vector-based e.g. Illustrator vector EPS

Timescales

  • Deadline for applications is 20 January 2025
  • The winning entries will be selected by the end of February 2025
  • The winning work will be installed by summer 2025

What can I win?

  • First place will receive a £450 cash prize, and their design produced as a semi-permanent vinyl on the Wellbeing Centre.
  • Second place will receive a £200 cash prize.
  • Third place will receive a £100 cash prize.
  • The second and third prize winners will have their designs displayed on campus for a brief period, this may include digital screens, poster frames and noticeboards.
