Apply now for the Stanley Evernden Memorial Prize

The School of Design and Creative Arts have opened applications for the Stanley Evernden Memorial Prize, an exciting opportunity for current Loughborough University students to secure funding to take a drama production to one of two UK festivals in 2025.

Stanley Evernden is recognised as the founder of undergraduate drama at Loughborough University. This fund, set up in his memory, provides financial support to students to take drama productions to festivals and events in the UK. Showcasing their talent in this way helps students develop their performance skills and, above all, ensures that Stanley Evernden will continue to inspire future generations of drama practitioners and professionals.

For 2024/25, students can apply for funding up to £750 to support a production for either the National Student Drama Festival or the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) will take place at Curve in Leicester from 22-26 April 2025.

  • Submissions deadline: 30 December 2024

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival takes place across the city of Edinburgh from 1-25 August 2025.

  • Registration will open in January 2025.

The prize money can be used to help with staging/production costs, travel and subsistence. The recipient will only be eligible for the prize money for a student production that has been accepted or officially registered for either of the two named festivals. Evidence of this will be required eg letter of acceptance, copy of contract with venue. In addition to this, the production must demonstrate an appropriate level of planning and production quality.

The prize is open to all current Loughborough University students from any subject background, including undergraduate and postgraduate (PGT and PGR) students. The lead applicant must have a formal role in the production eg director, producer, performer, production manager.

To apply, please email LU Arts at LUArts@lboro.ac.uk with the following information:

  • Lead applicant’s name and contact email address
  • Title of student production
  • Who is performing the work eg name of society or student group and a list of participants. Please note that one-person productions are eligible and you do not need to be part of a formal student group eg a society, to apply.
  • A brief description of the work itself and the artistic vision for the production (approximately 500 words)
  • A breakdown of expected production costs/budget. If the expected costs are greater than £750 then please include details on how you will fund this.

Deadline for applications: Monday 16 December 2024.

The above information must be contained in one document which is attached to the email and not in the body of the email itself.

Prize recipients commit to providing the University’s Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement team with a written report on completion of the production and letter of thanks to be shared with Loughborough’s donor and alumni community.
