Holocaust Memorial Day Workshop: Making room for multiple voices in healing for the future

About this event

One of three events being held on campus to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday 27 January, Amanda Harrington, Loughborough Business School, is hosting a workshop 'Making room for multiple voices in healing for the future'.

This year’s theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘learning from genocide: for a better future’. One way to learn is to listen to others.

This workshop will start with acknowledgement of the build-up to the World War Two Holocaust and its devastating, ongoing impact. In this period, Antisemitism is on the increase.

Islamophobia also grows. We meet this year when there is no universal acceptance of there being a genocide in Gaza. However, Amnesty Internation has concluded that Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza strip. We are surrounded by Holocaust denial, genocide denial.

The main part of this workshop will follow a Listening Circle format, where all participants have the opportunity, if they wish, to share their thoughts and feelings. In this way, each person can share from their heart with no interruption from others.

Guidance on this format will be shared at the start of our time together. Whatever you feel you do or don’t know, come ready to consider sharing the impact on you of the World War Two Holocaust and current genocides.
