I chose to pursue an MSc in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University because of its renowned reputation for engineering excellence, its strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, as well as its state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research made it the ideal choice for advancing my engineering knowledge and skills.
The MSc programme provides essential skills in improving manufacturing processes and ensuring material integrity—areas critical to my role at Bajaj Auto Ltd, who sponsored my studies. This has meant I have been able to positively contribute innovative ideas to my employer to ensure their continued success.
The academic support at Loughborough University has been exceptional. The personalised feedback and guidance I received not only helped me navigate challenges but also gave me the confidence to push my boundaries, enabling me to successfully complete my project and achieve my academic goals of contributing sustainable engineering solutions.
The University also provides a wide range of support services, which include career counselling, mental health services, and academic skills workshops, all of which contribute to a well-rounded and supportive environment for students. The supportive academic environment and the cutting-edge resources has deepened my understanding of the mechanical engineering discipline and equipped me with the skills necessary for real-world engineering challenges.
During my MSc in Mechanical Engineering, I utilised the sophisticated DPIV, Vehicle Emission Testing, Laser Interferometry and Digital Image Correlation labs which provided me with hands-on experience of advanced experimental techniques. The use of FEA and CAD software, including NX and MSC Marc, was crucial for modeling and simulating mechanical systems, while Star CCM aided in computational fluid dynamics for automotive design applications. These tools allowed me to conduct advanced experiments and simulations, such as measuring particle velocities with DPIV, assessing vehicle emissions in compliance with environmental standards, and using laser interferometry for precision measurements. These practical applications allowed me to apply theoretical concepts to practical engineering solutions and gave me a deeper understanding of the real-world challenges in engineering.
Transitioning to a new country and University has been a rewarding experience because Loughborough University offers a welcoming and inclusive environment. The support services have been invaluable in helping me to adjust to my new surroundings, which include orientation programmes, cultural integration activities and dedicated international student advisors. In addition, the vibrant campus community and diverse cultural experiences have broadened my perspectives and motivated me to embrace new challenges with confidence.
During my time at Loughborough University, I have been fortunate to experience opportunities that have contributed to both my academic growth and personal development. One of my proudest achievements has been securing 2nd place in the HyDex poster competition for my research project on the life cycle assessment of hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines. Additionally, my project was shortlisted for the prestigious Hammerson Award by the Engineering Professors Council (EPC), a recognition that further validated the impact of my work.
This accomplishment would not have been possible without the invaluable guidance of my supervisor, who played a key role in steering me toward this opportunity. I chose to enter the HyDex competition to challenge myself and elevate both my research and presentation skills, knowing I would be competing alongside talented peers from diverse backgrounds.
Participating in the competition provided me with the chance to receive constructive feedback from industry experts, which has significantly contributed to my growth as a researcher. Moreover, it allowed me to connect with fellow researchers, building networks that will be beneficial for my future career. Opportunities like this are crucial in enhancing your academic and professional profile, boosting confidence and opening doors to exciting prospects in the field.
In addition to my academic achievements, I had the privilege of serving as a Student Representative at two postgraduate admission virtual events at Loughborough University. This role gave me the opportunity to interact with both academic and marketing teams, as well as prospective students. Through these responsibilities, I was able to enhance my public speaking and interpersonal skills. I delivered presentations sharing my personal experiences and provided valuable insights into the University’s MSc programmes and the extracurricular opportunities available at Loughborough. This experience not only allowed me to contribute to the University community but also helped prospective students make informed decisions about their education.
