Loughborough's industry connections offer excellent opportunities for career development!
Prior to coming to Loughborough, I gained two years of experience in electrical engineering in the UAE before pursuing my Net Zero Building Services Engineering MSc. I chose Loughborough for its strong reputation in sustainable building design and its opportunities for career development.
The course provided a solid foundation in net zero building services engineering through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
I was excited about the hands-on learning opportunities, including software, site visits, and collaborative projects where I developed effective problem-solving and teamworking skills. The modules in thermal modelling, BIM, and net zero design were particularly valuable and they provided essential industry knowledge.
Loughborough's extensive expertise and state-of-the-art facilities provided a great learning environment too.
As an international student, it is important to engage with the course, network extensively and utilise the available support the School and University offer. These will all enhance your student experience at Loughborough.
A standout achievement for me was winning the ASHRAE Net Zero Energy Design Student Competition, highlighting my dedication to sustainable building practices. We have close links with ASHRAE which means we can access resources and expertise to help expand our knowledge.
The course structure, coupled with the university's resources and support, effectively prepares the student for a career in the construction industry. The ability to balance academic and social life contributes to overall well-being and personal growth which is why life at Loughborough University is highly desirable.
Transitioning to Loughborough as an international student was initially challenging, however the university's support services and diverse community helped me to adapt well.
Being a foreign student, I enjoyed immersing myself into the international culture at Loughborough University. There are many students in the same boat, so we shared experiences and supported each other. Before I came to Loughborough, I was very apprehensive, but I very quickly settled in with the many resources and support on offer from the University’s international students' team.
As a whole, I would highly recommend this programme to those who are passionate about sustainability and net zero solutions in the built environment. If you are an international student, you will be welcomed with open arms and supported and have a wealth of resources available to you to help you settle.
Build a strong foundation in sustainability to ensure career success – there is likely a big focus in seeking net zero solutions in your home country!
