WARPit

WARPit is an online portal and reuse network which makes it easy for Schools and Departments to share surplus resources on our two campuses. The portal is a great way to repurpose items you no longer require and reduce the need to buy new! This supports the University’s wide strategy of ‘Creating Better Futures. Together’. Specifically, the focus on Climate Change and Net Zero.

Why is WARPit beneficial

  • We can save money by spending less on procurement and waste disposal
  • We can reduce our carbon footprint
  • We can stop unnecessary items being disposed of as waste
  • Reduced storage costs
  • Items can be claimed externally to support other organisations such as schools and charities

How does WARPit work?

  • Staff can sign up to WARPit
  • Once logged in, staff can then browse WARPit to see what items are available.
  • Items can be uploaded for internal claims only (Loughborough University staff only) or they can also be offered externally to other local organisations such as schools and charities
  • We are also able to claim items from the wider WARPit community
  • There is no internal cost to claim an item
  • The only external cost is the cost of collection for the items we claim
  • If an item isn’t claimed, the School / Department and FADS Department can make a decision whether to extend the item, store the item or dispose of it.
  • WARPit monitors the financial and carbon savings using average values for each type of item established by the portal developers

What items can be reused through WARPit?

  • Furniture, fixtures and fittings
  • Office supplies and equipment
  • Stationery
  • Electricals (only promoted internally and must be in a good and safe working condition)

Participants have to abide by the terms and conditions stated when uploading or claiming a resource.

Other FAQ’s

  • Can staff use the system to trade their own goods or claims items for personal use? No
  • Are students allowed to claim items? No but:
    • Hall committees may ask their Hall Manager to claim items for hall common rooms if they approve these.
    • Student societies may ask the Students Union permanent staff to claim items for use on campus if they approve of this and can store the items.
  • I’ve claimed an item – what do I do next? The collection of items is to be arranged between the contributor and the claimant. For larger, bulkier items, a request can be made on Archibus for its collection. Please note that this will require up to 2 weeks’ notice (3 weeks in peak exam and graduation periods). If you require assistance at the London Campus contact London-reception@lboro.ac.uk
  • Can my children’s school sign up to WARPit to share resources? Yes! Share WARPit for schools with them. Once they are signed up, they are free to start their search of what they need. They can also add stuff to their wish list.
  • I know a local charity looking for something I’ve seen on WARPit, how do I share this with them? Local charities can sign up for WARPit by visiting WARPit for charities. They can then browse items in their local area.
  • How do I see my savings? Once you have either collected or had your item collected. Remember to go back into your ‘Claimed Items’ and mark the item as collected. This will then show your savings in your Performance Report.
