Welcome to Loughborough University’s dynamic working website, where you will find a range of information to support you in all aspects of dynamic working.
Dynamic working describes working arrangements in which the working location and, to some degree, working patterns can be flexible from week to week. Dynamic working is operated through informal, non-contractual arrangements between managers and their teams. This allows flexibility to adjust arrangements to suit both individual and business needs on a regular basis. It differs from flexible working, which is formal request made by an individual and requires a formal process of consideration. A change approved through a formal flexible working request is a contractual change to contract.
Operating dynamic working aims to ensure that we continue generating the vibrant and welcoming campus atmosphere that Loughborough University is famed for, while recognising that some colleagues find dynamic working beneficial in achieving a better work-life balance or improving their performance and productivity. Typically, staff who work dynamically will spend the majority of their time working on campus but can also spend time working from home. For example, a full-time employee may work three days on campus and two days at home. They may also, on occasion, vary the times of day they work to suit their own and/or business needs, although the total hours worked should be in accordance with their contracted hours. Managers will determine the proportion of an employee’s role that needs to be performed on campus, considering both the operational needs of the role, the team’s effectiveness and the need to develop and maintain a positive team culture.
