Meherunisa Baig

  • Doctoral Researcher

Meherunisa Baig is a Doctoral Researcher in the School of Design & Creative Arts at Loughborough University, with an academic background in graphic design, specializing in branding and advertising. She holds an undergraduate degree in graphic design, where her focus was on developing cohesive brand identities and strategic visual communication solutions.

Following her industry experience in advertising, Meherunisa completed an MA in Graphic Design and Visualization at Loughborough University. During her master’s studies, her research interests evolved toward curriculum design and design epistemology, particularly examining how design knowledge is constructed, taught, and applied within educational contexts.

Currently, she is pursuing a PhD investigating the intersection between academic and industry perceptions of graphic design education. Her research aims to contribute to the development of more effective curriculum frameworks that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry practice, enhancing the pedagogical approaches used to prepare students for professional design environments.

Bridging the Gap: Academia and Industry in Graphic Design

Meherunisa’s PhD research focuses on addressing the epistemological and pedagogical challenges within graphic design education. The study investigates the discrepancies between academic frameworks and industry expectations, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry to better align higher education undergraduate curricula in the UK with professional demands. By exploring the foundations of graphic design knowledge and integrating industry-relevant skills into educational practices, her research seeks to advance the maturity of graphic design as an independent discipline.
