Professional Background
Bibi Samshad Duman is a Textile Design Educator and Researcher specializing in Fashion Design, Textile Weaving and Knitting, Graphic Design, and Collaborative Creativity. She holds a Master’s degree in Design Innovation and Collaborative Creativity from the Glasgow School of Art/University of Glasgow. Her practice-based research explores zero-waste fashion through innovative textile construction techniques and upcycling methodologies.
Research Interests
Her research primarily focuses on sustainable design practices, stakeholder engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. A key area of investigation is the transformation of industrial textile waste into viable new materials. Her work has contributed to the Anti-Amnesia project at the University of Aveiro, which examines creative reuse and material innovation within the textile and footwear industries. This research builds upon her undergraduate studies, during which she completed a two-year professional internship with Richfield Tang Knitwear’s Industrial Fashion Design division.
Teaching and Academic Contributions
With over twelve years of experience as a Design and Textiles Educator and three years as a Lecturer in Graphics and Multimedia, Bibi has contributed to a range of courses, including Hypermedia and Interactive Photography, Photography Design Studio, VR Studio, and Basic Design Studio. She has played an essential role in structuring these courses and providing mentorship and guidance to students. Additionally, she continues to contribute to undergraduate modules as a marker for Textile Final Reports and Speculative Futures.

Bibi is conducting doctoral research at Loughborough University on "Patterns of Textile Design Education in the United Kingdom." Her study analyses final-year undergraduate projects across UK textile design programs to identify key patterns, methodologies, and pedagogical approaches that shape emerging designer's educational outcomes.
The goal is to develop a transferable blueprint for textile design education that informs curriculum development and bridges the gap between academic training and industry needs. By exploring design briefs, technical skills, creative exploration, and the integration of contemporary trends, Bibi seeks to enhance educational practices in textile design.
The research also has broader implications for creative disciplines, offering guidelines that foster innovation, critical thinking, and practical application across various design fields. Using a bespoke methodology, including case studies and interviews, Bibi aims to contribute to the future of design education and its role.
