Loughborough Business School hosts first cohort of Level 7 Infrastructure Asset Management Professional Apprentices for programme launch

On 29th October, Loughborough Business School staff welcomed the inaugural cohort of apprentices for the launch of the UK’s first Infrastructure Asset Management Professional (IAMP) Level 7 Apprenticeship.

Apprentices from Manchester Airports Group, Network Rail, Affinity Water and Troup Bywaters Anders will be engaging with a wide range of content, delivered by expert lecturers and practitioners, designed to equip them with the knowledge and understanding they need to be more effective, people-oriented leaders in the future.

In addition to building on the core competencies needed to successfully develop their career, the IAMP Apprenticeship offers students opportunities to consider how to deal with the ethical, sustainability, and social challenges asset managers face, through modules such as:

  • Strategy, Governance and Risk
  • Personal Values and Effectiveness
  • Finance and Performance Management
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Engineering
  • Leading and Influencing Change
  • Information Management and Analytical Tools

Discussing the programme, Dr Amanda Harrington said: “I’m very excited to welcome our first cohort of IAMP Apprentices to this new programme. Good quality infrastructure assets are the backbone of our societies, they are vital for supporting economic growth, ensuring efficient transportation, reliable energy supply, and sustainable water management. However, maintaining these essential assets in the face of growing demands on capacity and resilience presents a major challenge.

“Technical expertise and innovation are important, but effective leadership skills have become increasingly crucial to increase the efficiency of teams and the retention of talent in asset management businesses. Over the course of this apprenticeship programme, our students will explore the evolving landscape of infrastructure asset management, the role of leadership, and the skills current and future leaders will require.

“As part of Loughborough Business School’s commitment to creating change by putting theory into practice and using applied learning, programme participants will develop practical and innovative solutions to current problems through work-based assignments. This real-world application of what we are teaching also enables our apprentices to better balance their work commitments with studying part-time at Loughborough.”
