Staff from Loughborough Business School are providing support to local homelessness charity Falcon Support Services and Blue Bell Hill Primary School through this year’s Christmas charity appeal.

Organised by Dr Kate Broadhurst, Vicki Unwin and Tomasz Cendrowski, this year’s appeal aims to make a meaningful difference in the local community.

Business School colleagues elected to support two good causes in 2024:

  • Falcon Support Services: a Leicestershire homelessness charity that has been helping the homeless and those in need find independence through housing and community support for 20 years.
  • Blue Bell Hill Primary School: sits at the heart of a diverse multicultural community in St Anns, Nottingham. Every year each child is given a reading book for Christmas, helping to encourage children’s natural curiosity as they develop into well-rounded, lifelong learners.

Staff were invited to share the joy of Christmas by donating a gift such as a children's book, men's socks, deodorants or chocolate.

As a result of the collection, every child at Blue Bell Hill Primary School will receive a book to take home – supporting a passion for reading in over 400 young people.

In addition, more than 50 service users at the Falcon Centre will be gifted with bags filled with socks, toiletries and chocolates, bringing much needed support to those in need.

Discussing the initiative, Dr Broadhurst said: “It’s fantastic to be able to support two excellent causes with our Christmas appeal this year. A big part of our ethos at Loughborough Business School is about trying to make a positive impact on the world around us, particularly giving back to our local communities.

“As Regional, Civic and Community Lead for the School, it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to support initiatives like this which have a meaningful impact on the lives of those who most need our support at this time of year.”

Janine Lane, Fundraising and Partnerships Officer at Falcon Support Services said: “We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for this generous donation of products to Falcon Support Services. As Christmas approaches, many individuals within our service would otherwise go without gifts this Christmas.

“These thoughtful contributions will allow us to create meaningful hampers that will truly brighten their celebrations and make this time of year more special, and makes a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.”
