On Thursday 27th February, we had the privilege of welcoming Richard Whitehead, PLY MBE to the Peter Harrison Laboratory for testing as he embarks on an incredible journey – running 20 marathons in 2025 to celebrate 20 years of competing in marathons and reach a remarkable milestone of 100 marathons.
Richard’s visit provided an invaluable opportunity for Loughborough University undergraduate and master’s students to gain some hands-on experience in conducting testing on Para athletes, enhancing their practical knowledge in sports science.
Commenting on his visit and his longstanding connection with the Peter Harrison Laboratory, Richard said:
"It was absolutely fantastic to join Vicky and up and coming Sports Scientist at the testing lab at Loughborough University last week. Thank you to everyone for their energy and support, especially as I had just got back from running the Malta Marathon! The work Vicky and the team have done in the Paralympic circle is just superb and has contributed to medal after medal!"
Having already completed the Dubai Marathon in January, followed by the Miami and Malta marathons in February, Richard is now getting ready to compete in his fourth marathon of the year – the Original Marathon in London on Saturday 8th March, running from Windsor to White City – this will mark his 84th marathon!
Stay updated on Richard’s journey by following him on LinkedIn and reading the newsletters on his website: RichardWhiteheadMBE.
We wish Richard the very best of luck in his challenge and look forward to welcoming him back to the laboratory later in the year!
