IAS Friends and Fellows Coffee Morning

On Tuesday 21st January we will be hosting an IAS Friends and Fellows Coffee Morning, where we will be joined by IAS Residential Fellow Dr Carla Maria dos Santos Filipe Baptista, and IAS Visiting Fellows Dr Xiaoya Xun, Dr Estefania Cuenca Asensio & Professor Liberato Ferrara.

Dr Carla Maria dos Santos Filipe Baptista, University Nova of Lisbon

Carla Baptista is an Associate Professor in Communication Sciences at NOVA FSCH in Lisbon and a senior researcher at ICNOVA. She teaches Media History and Journalism Ethics in the undergraduate course and Media, Journalism and Technology in the Communication Sciences Master. She is also a freelance journalist and a member of the editorial board of the Portuguese edition of the French newspaper Le Monde Diplomatique. She is the author of several books, including Journalists, from the Craft to the Profession (2007), Living Memories of Journalists (2009) and Death and Resurrection of Political Journalism (2011).

Dr Xiaoya Xun, Shenzhen University

Xun Xiaoya, a Ph.D. graduate from the University of Cambridge, is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Shenzhen University. Her teaching and research focus on criminal law, comparative criminal law, and criminology. Dr. Xun's primary research interest lies in juvenile delinquency, with a particular emphasis on how internal factors (such as morality and self-control) interact with external factors (such as family and society) in the development of young individuals. She is conducting a longitudinal study tracking 588 adolescents from ages 14 to 16 and plans to launch the fourth wave of research next year when participants reach 24 years old.

Dr Estefania Cuenca Asensio, Politecnico di Milano

Estefanía Cuenca, PhD is Assistant Professor of Structural Analysis and Design in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi). She received her degree in civil engineering, her MSc in concrete engineering, and her PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Spain. She has actively participated in several European projects such as ReSHEALience, MINRESCUE, SMARTINCS and SARCOS. Her research interests include from material concept to structural applications of advanced cementitious composites, fiber-reinforced concrete, self-consolidating concrete, self-healing of concrete and sustainable and recycled concretes.#

Professor Liberato Ferrara, Politecnico di Milano

Liberato Ferrara, PhD, is Professor of Structural Analysis and Design at Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi). He was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Center for Advanced Cement Based Materials, Northwestern University (USA) and visiting professor at Beijing Jiaotong University (PRC). He was chair of H2020 project ReSHEALience, “Rethinking coastal defence and Green-energy Service infrastructures through enHancEd-durAbiLity high-performance cement-based materials”. He led PoliMi’s research group in two EU-FP7 projects (SMARTINCS and MINRESCUE) and coordinated bilateral scientific cooperation projects Italy/South Korea, Italy/India, Italy/Israel and Italy/Germany. He was chair of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) TC 544-Fiber Reinforced Concrete and was Italian representative in the COST Action 15020 SARCOS- Self healing as preventive repair in concrete structures.
