Global Impact Scholarships – which cover 50-100% of the tuition fees for a postgraduate degree – have been set up to provide a transformative opportunity to students from around the world and to help them to realise their full potential.
Around 40% of this year’s Global Impact Scholarships have been supported by donations to the Loughborough Fund, which alongside funding from the University has supported a total of 20 scholarships for 2024/25.
Bukunmi is from Nigeria and is the recipient of a Global Impact Scholarship. She is studying for an MSc in Engineering Design. She said:
“One major reason I chose to leave my home country and study at Loughborough is my desire to see the world from a different point of view.”
A postgraduate education at Loughborough will help our scholars to support communities in their home countries on completion of their studies. Looking to the future, Bukunmi has ideas of how she with utilise her experiences when she completes her degree:
“After completing my MSc, I plan to gain further experience and exposure in the energy and agricultural sectors, while contributing meaningfully to the industrialisation of African nations, especially Nigeria. I also aspire to establish a design school for teenagers, encouraging them to embrace innovation and creativity early on, teaching them to express themselves and not to suppress the radical ideas their developing minds generate, just as I was taught.”
The Global Impact Scholarships are an exciting addition to our offering at Loughborough, which, alongside the new Sanctuary Scholarships, are broadening the ways in which the University can support students into an education in the UK.
