Andy Stapley and Eileen Yu leave Loughborough University

Andy Stapley and Eileen Yu

The School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering would like to thank Dr Andy Stapley and Professor Eileen Yu for their work, after both members of staff announced their departure from Loughborough University.

Dr Andy Stapley, studied Chem Eng at Cambridge as undergraduate and PhD, working on diffusion and reaction in cereal grains. He later worked as a postdoc at Birmingham on crystallisation of fats, and subsequently came to Loughborough as Lecturer in 1999, becoming Senior Lecturer in 2007.

During his time at Loughborough, Andy has worked as an overseas admission tutor and then UG admissions tutor, undergraduate programme director and Head of Department for Chemical Engineering.

Andy’s research specialisms have been primarily in drying processes and in fats and fat crystallisation. He has supervised numerous PhD students and examined still more.

Thanking Andy for his contributions, Valerie Pinfield, Acting Dean of the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering, said:

Andy has carried out each and every role he has had at Loughborough with a great deal of care and dedication. But more than that…Andy is a genuinely lovely guy and a great colleague to work with and we will really miss you. We wish you a long and happy retirement.

Professor Eileen Yu

Professor Eileen Yu joined Loughborough in July 2020 from Newcastle University and has since made substantial contributions to the research and teaching in the School.

She has won funding for the Centre for the Circular Chemical Economy, an Institute of Chemical Engineers award for sustainability and funding for mass spectroscopy facilities for electrochemical work.

Eileen has also supported a number of postdocs and PhD students, focussing work on a more sustainable future.

Professor Pinfield, said: “Eileen we appreciate everything you have done whilst here at Loughborough and we wish you every success with your research and your future career.”
