Tom Jacques and Sophie Batten, who studied at Loughborough University between 2015 and 2019, were recently married surrounded by family and friends.

Modern European Studies graduates (1987), James Roberts and Steve Voysey, recently reunited with a French family who hosted them on their goat farm nearly 40 years ago during their studies at Loughborough.

Two 2019 graduates, Sian Bruty and Danny Jaine, got married in Chichester on 20 July 2024.

Beth Higgins graduated this year with a degree in Psychology on the same stage where both of her parents stood 29 years ago.

Alumnus appointed to the Board of Sport Northern Ireland
Alumnus Steve Reid has been appointed by the Northern Ireland Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons MLA to the Board of Sport Northern Ireland (Sport NI).

The first of many: two alumni gatherings in Beijing and Chengdu

Over 200 alumni and friends visit campus for reunion weekend
From 17-19 May 2024, more than 200 alumni and guests visited Loughborough for the Alumni Reunion Weekend and Donor Lunch. The weekend was a celebration of peoples’ time at Loughborough, a chance to catch up, and an opportunity to explore what has changed at the University in recent years.

Loughborough alumni in Nigeria connect in first online gathering
International Alumni Ambassadors Jethro Akaito (Pharmaceutical Science and Medicinal Chemistry 2021) and Ashley Stewart (International Management 2008) launched their first-ever online gathering for alumni in Nigeria, with 21 attendees joining in for a lively session.

In mid-April, a delegation of Loughborough staff headed to the USA to build overseas relationships with fellow universities, sporting organisations, and with alumni. A delegation last visited in early 2023.

Happily ever after: alumni reconnect after years of friendship and get married
Naami Sharma and Suvam Sikarwar got married in March 2024 in Varanasi, India. It was a two-day event with four different functions, each with different colour schemes.

A Loughborough love story: from freshers’ week to marriage
Emma Godman and Matthew Pickering met during freshers’ week when they started studying at Loughborough University in October 2010. Emma studied a BSc in International Business and Matt studied a MEng in Mechanical Engineering. They both lived in neighbouring blocks in Rutherford halls and quickly became part of the same friendship circle.

Des Diamond and his five friends lived on the 13th floor of Towers in their final year at Loughborough. September marked the first time the whole group reunited since graduating in 1971.

Ryan and Rosie Taylor-Travers met at the Loughborough Students’ Gymnastics club in 2015. They were members of the club for the entire time they were studying at Loughborough, and they also played other sports during their time at the University.

A Loughborough family celebration for Lizzie and Lewis
Loughborough alumni couple Lizzie and Lewis Jones met on the first day of freshers’ week, and conveniently both lived in Block 17 of Faraday Hall on campus. With a wonderful bond dating back 14 years, they tied the knot in July 2023.

A Loughborough friendship turned into love: Another Loughborough Wedding
Zeyad began his Loughborough University journey in 2014, pursuing his studies in Mechanical Engineering. Nour had joined the University two years later, starting her BA degree in Graphic Communication and Illustration. The couple crossed paths in 2017; within the Arab Society. They were both part of the committee with Nour serving as Chair and Zeyad as Treasurer.

On 6-7 May 2023, a group of 12 women's football alumnae cycled 145 miles from Loughborough University to Brentwood, Essex in memory of their friend and former teammate, Ria Melvin.

Loughborough engineer appointed to two top tribunal roles
Loughborough University Alumna, Eur Ing Dr Phebe Mann (Construction 1985) has been appointed to the Upper Tribunal Administrative Appeals Chamber (Transport Jurisdiction) and First-Tier Tribunal General Regulatory Chamber (Transport Jurisdiction) by the Lord Chancellor.

Personal Best: My Story returns with Alumni President Oliver Sidwell
Alumnus Oliver Sidwell is the Co-Founder and Director of RMP Enterprise, a business he launched with fellow Loughborough students in the final year of his degree. In the years since, the business has grown, evolved, and developed new offerings. For the first in-person Personal Best: My Story talk since 2019, our Alumni President headed to Loughborough University London to share insights into launching and running RateMyPlacement, with a particular focus on managing money.

Baroness Grey-Thompson shares inspiring story as Loughborough celebrates International Women’s Day
Alumna Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE, DL shared insights into her life as a Paralympian, studying at Loughborough, and becoming a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords. The talk formed part of the University’s Voices of Diversity series and was held online on 7 March to mark International Women’s Day. She was joined by the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Professor Rachel Thomson, who hosted the discussion.
