Loughborough alumna Foluso Agbaje has written a novel exploring themes of women’s empowerment and revolution.

The Parlour Wife was published in September 2024 and follows a young Nigerian woman, Kehinde, navigating cultural expectations and personal ambition during World War II in Lagos. She is presented with the opportunity to assist the leader of the Lagos Market Women's Association, fighting for the rights the British are trying to take away – but must decide between her duty to support her family or fight for herself and the other women of Lagos.

The story details the quiet revolution of women challenging societal expectations in seek of self-fulfilment. It reclaims and celebrates the powerful stories of African women and their integral role in the liberation of their country.

Foluso’s book has been well-reviewed among authors and is now available to purchase.

She graduated in 2013 with a BSc in Accounting and Financial Management.
