Sir John Jennings

1937 - 2024

Chancellor of Loughborough University from 2003-2010

It is with great sadness we inform you of the death of Sir John Jennings, who was the Chancellor of Loughborough University from 2003-2010.

John was a very engaged Chancellor, who, along with his wife Linda, gave a great deal to staff and students at the University. He made a point to always personally attend graduations and shook every graduand’s hand to congratulate them. Sir John regularly stayed at Burleigh Court to fulfil his duties as Chancellor at the University, and his expertise was invaluable when advising the University on business matters.

Before his time as Chancellor, Sir John served as Chairman of Shell Transport and Trading Group from 1993-1997 and then Director of the company until 2001. During his tenure at Shell, he was highly respected as a leader, particularly for how he steered the company through periods of crisis.

Sir John Jennings held the role of Chancellor for seven years before being succeeded by Sir Nigel Rudd.

Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time. His impact on the University and beyond will not be forgotten.
